Objective

The student is familiar with bioprocesses on a general level and is aware of their special characteristics and the mathematics associated with the processes. The student knows the different unit operations related to biotechnological processes, is familiar with the calculus included, and is able to outline the factors influencing their selection based on the properties of biomaterials and the overall process.

The student is especially familiar with the techniques related to fermentation and down-stream processes, i.e. the separation and purification of products, and is able to apply them in practice. The student is also able to name various biotechnological processes and products, and is familiar with the industry.

The student understands the concepts of scale-up and scale-down of bioprocesses and is familiar with methods of experimental design as well as yield and process optimization.
