Objective

The student is able to utilize theoretical, practical and experiential knowledge and skills in planning and implementing individual, ensemble or group instruction, as well as reflect on their own experiences as part of their musical activities and utilize this in their pedagogical development. The student is able to create meaningful learning environments using functional methods in group teaching within the scope of basic art education, even without their own instrument.

The student is able to guide ensembles (band, chamber music ensemble, vocal ensemble, choir) in education and performance with an encouraging and supportive pedagogical approach. The student is able to specify factors that influence musical interaction and learning situations and explain their importance in the learning environments they encounter. The student is able to form functional ensembles, and select, arrange or compose suitable repertoire for them, and guide players of different instruments in the group. The student is able to gather information independently and broaden their own pedagogical thinking.

Content

Common instructional content for basic art education (composition, improvisation, music listening and conceptualization), methods of creative group activities and their practical application. Basics of ensemble pedagogy and teaching practice as well as visits to other educational institutions related to the student’s specialization. In-depth instrument or ensemble guidance, depending on the student's choice. Independent learning assignments.

Prerequisites

The student is able to guide instrumental teaching in group instruction. The student is able to support learning in a motivating way for individuals and groups. The student is able to identify and solve challenges in the learning process, utilize group dynamics and provide meaningful assignments for the group. The student is able to creatively apply various elements of music in their group teaching. The student is able to teach the group improvisation, taking into account the musical and stylistic context. The student is able to reflect on their group pedagogical skills and continuously improve on them.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The student is able to guide the common content for basic art education
(composing, improvising, listening and conceptualization). The student can lead ensembles. The student is able to analyze learning situations. The student is able to distinguish between the assumptions that underlie learner-centered teaching and recognize their effects in the learning situations they encounter. The student is able to reflect on their own pedagogical competence and development.
