The first year and half of the second year of the Smart Automation curriculum is delivered in collaboration with the Electronics curriculum. The aim of the first year of undergraduate studies is to provide a strong technical and theoretical basis for professional studies. During the first and second years, students study vocational studies, mathematics, physics, English and other basic engineering subjects. International students start studying Finnish at the beginning of their studies and study a total of 20 ETCS of Finnish during the first two years of study.

During the third and fourth years of study, students will deepen their skills and knowledge in the areas of smart automation through specific advanced studies in smart factories and cloud computing, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and robotics. Students will have the opportunity to broaden their professional skills through optional project or entrepreneurship studies. Students will carry out a Minno 3 project in their third or fourth year. Finnish students also complete a second national language course. Internships can be carried out during the fourth year or alternatively during the summer period between semesters. During the final year of study, students will complete a thesis on a topic related to the content of the degree.
