Descriptions

Degree Programme International Business and Logistics, 210 ECTS
Bachelor of Business Administration BBA
Day-time Studies in English

International Business and Logistics degree programme is designed to prepare students for a career in international business where the knowledge and expertise of managing global supply chains and increased material and information flows is important. This degree offers general international business administration studies focusing especially on supply chain management and marketing.

Information security and guidelines for using artificial intelligence will be introduced to the student during the orientation days in the beginning of the studies. During the first year of study the student chooses one of the two main professional majors of the programme; Supply Chain Management or Marketing and completes a total of 30 ECTS of professional major studies during the second and third year of study. The obligatory studies also include 15 ECTS international business studies. Additionally students can choose courses related to other business fields as elective courses including, for example, finance, human resources, strategic management, and business intelligence. The international students will study at least 20 ECTS of Finnish language according to their study plan. It is possible that part of the studies will be arranged bilingually (Finnish-English).

ICT and data analytics skills, critical and innovative thinking and project management skills are developed throughout the programme. In the second year of studies, all students undertake an Innovation Project that allows them to apply previously acquired knowledge in problem-solving projects. An International Business and Logistics degree programme graduate understands the principles of sustainable development and is able to operate responsibly in a multicultural and international operating environment and networks. Sustainability and business ethics are amongst the key values passed on to the students during their studies.

Students will be working in a very multicultural environment, as many students and teaching staff members come from around the world.

Students are offered various study exchange possibilities. Choosing the Supply Chain Management as professional major offers the possibility of earning a double degree by studying 60 ECTS at a selected partner university during an academic year, as agreed with the partner university. This study path is limited to a restricted number of students.

All students are required to complete a six-month work placement and a Bachelor's thesis in their final year of studies.

Graduates of the programme will typically be positioned in a variety of international trade and supply chain management roles, or they can continue their studies in Master's programmes.

Development

The BBA International Business and Logistics degree programme was launched in autumn 2008. It has been designed and delivered in partnership with employers and other stakeholder groups, and an advisory board comprising employer representatives meets regularly to offer guidance on matters of strategic importance relating to curriculum content, course design and learning experiences.

Graduates from the programme remain involved in the life of the school as alumni and are consulted regarding curricular issues. They also arrange guest lectures and work placement opportunities to current students and thereby continue their involvement in the development of the programme. The programme has a proud history of its students, whether as individuals or in teams, winning competitions organised by employers and trade associations.

This curriculum has been developed as part of the Metropolia 2025 curriculum renewal process. The whole academic staff of Metropolia Business School was involved in the curriculum development work and the process of Metropolia 2025 curriculum from March 2024 until November 2024. Also several stakeholder groups and business representatives were consulted in the process. The changes made are based on the Metropolia Business School 2025 curriculum process and work.
