Objective
The student
• is familiar with the field, study environment and study group
• is familiar with Metropolia's practices and identifies the key study-related guidelines and regulations at Metropolia UAS
• recognises the responsibilities and rights as a student and understands the study and work methods required for the degree
• is familiar with the opportunities provided by the degree programme’s curriculum and the competencies developed through the degree
• is able to assess own skills, set professional goals, and to create an initial version of their Personal Study Plan (PSP)
• can use the most common software and systems needed for studying
• can create their personal language study plan (PLSP) according to their language proficiency level and language goals.
• understands the key principles of data protection and the use of artificial intelligence
• understands the dimensions of sustainable development
Content
• Guidelines, regulations and practices related to studying in a university of applied sciences
• Physical and digital learning environment, learning principles, and methods within the degree programme
• Key digital tools and information systems used in learning and working in the degree programme
• Principles of data protection and artificial intelligence
• Competences provided by the degree, curriculum, Metropolia’s Language Pathway, and study planning (RPL, PSP, PLSP)
• Identifying strengths and areas of improvement in learning
• Sustainable development
The course includes: 1 ECTS Sustainable Development (U!REKA SHIFT), 0.5 ECTS Artificial Intelligence Driving Licence and 1.5 ECTS other IT studies. The tutor recommends Finnish language and/or elective studies for each student based on their individual study plan.

1. Sustainability in the Urban European Context (U!REKA SHIFT, 1 ECTS)
Objectives; after completing the course the student
• is aware of the planetary ecological boundaries, climate change and biodiversity loss
• understands the three dimensions of sustainable development as a systemic entity and can explain the interdependencies between them
• is aware of the European regulations related to digital and green transition
• is able to identify the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and how the goals are promoted within U!REKA cities
• is aware of the sustainability focus within U!REKA European University Alliance.

2. AI Driving Licence including Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence (0.5 ECTS)

• understands the principles of large language models and their advantages and disadvantages
• is able to use AI in a responsible and ethical way in learning, taking responsibility for the content of their own work and following good scientific practice.

Objectives; after completing the course the student
• is able to process information appropriately, to identify the most common information security threats and is prepared to meet the requirements of working life in terms of information security skills.
