Objective

The student deepens their knowledge of the situational nature of language use in healthcare. They are able to adapt their language use to the situation and be an active participant in situations. The student is able to express their opinion and justify it in various ways. The student develops and builds their courage to communicate in Finnish in changing situations in the healthcare field and to convey information both orally and in writing. The student's language skills are at level B2.1 of the European Framework of Reference.

Content

The course involves practicing everyday verbal and written communication in the healthcare field, expanding vocabulary, and learning key grammar skills and structures needed in different healthcare situations. Students practice expressing and justifying their opinions and give a short presentation related to the healthcare field. The course deepens students' knowledge of patient guidance situations.

Qualifications

Previous knowledge of Finnish at level B1.2 or higher, e.g. the courses Nursing in Finnish 1 and Nursing in Finnish 2 or equivalent knowledge.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student is able to justify their opinions and prepare an oral presentation based on research data. The student endeavours to use language in a versatile manner appropriate to the situation and uses more demanding language structures in their oral and written expression to some extent.

The student justifies their opinions in a versatile manner and prepares an oral presentation based on research data. They are able to express themselves confidently, clearly, and politely, as required by the situation. The student is able to form and use more demanding language structures correctly in both oral and written communication to a great extent.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student prepares an oral presentation based on research data, in which they argue their opinion carefully and comprehensively. The student demonstrates an understanding of the purposes of different registers, contexts, and nuances of language and takes these into account in their own language use. They use even complex structures of the Finnish language creatively and in a versatile manner.
