Workplacement(s) and Work-based Learning
Studying a Master’s Degree (UAS) takes place in close interaction with working life. Students represent different organizations and they have at least two years of previous work experience. Their Master’s Thesis is a development task looking for solutions to professional challenges at the student’s own workplace or a partner organization. A professional training period is not included in the degree.

Access to further studies
Master of Culture and Arts is eligible for postgraduate studies, where the qualification requirement is a master's degree.

Profile of the programme
The textile and clothing sector is making progress towards a circular economy. The Master's Degree Programme in Fashion and Clothing increases the student's comprehensive understanding of the challenges of the textile and clothing value chains, the pressures for change and the innovations and networks that support the circular economy. The studies increase the student's sustainability and circular economy skills, and offer the ability to work in various expert, development and management positions internationally. After completing the degree, the student is able to anticipate, develop and manage processes and projects in their field and create a new kind of operating culture in the textile and clothing industry.

The Master’s Degree Programme in Fashion and Clothing educates experts who have the competence to work as a specialist in responsible product management as part of an international multidisciplinary team. They can manage
research, development and innovation projects, and develop the competitiveness of a company or organization in the field of textiles and clothing.

1. Responsible Product Management
The student understands the importance of social responsibility and is able to promote its implementation and the principles of sustainable development in their field. The student is able to assess the ecological, social and economic impacts of processes in the textile and clothing industry. The student acknowledges the possibilities of individuals and communities in developing responsible practices in the textile and clothing industry. The student expands their skills in assessing and communicating organizational responsibility. The student takes responsibility for the actions of the community and its consequences. The student is able to promote transparency in the organization's partnership network. The student is able to work in quality management and product management positions.
2. Research and Development Competence in Textiles and Clothing
The student understands the strong commitment of the textile and clothing industry towards sustainable development and the circular economy and is able to support this development. The student knows and masters various methods of research and development and is able to choose suitable methods for a development project. The student is able to apply methods in research and development work. The student is able to initiate, implement and manage (development) projects in their field. The student is able to acquire, produce, interpret and utilize new information and develop practices in their field. The student reports expertly on the results of their development work.
Graduation requirements
The student is eligible to graduate after completing all the required courses set for the degree as a present student (60 ECTS credits).

International student exchange during the Master's Degree (UAS) programme is possible upon agreement.

Examination regulations, assessment and grading
The assessment criteria is defined in the degree regulations of Metropolia and course-specific requirements are described in the curriculum.
Mode of study
Tuition is mainly given in Finnish. Some of the teaching and/or learning material is in English. This blended degree programme can be completed alongside work. The student prepares a personal study plan (HOPS), which includes five credits (5 cr) of elective studies.
The master’s thesis related to the studies is thirty credits (30 cr). The thesis is a work-based research development project. The client is usually the student's own employer, but can also be some other working life organization. The topic of the thesis must be clearly related to the themes of the textile and clothing industry.
