Descriptions
The Master’s degree in Music provides students with competence to work as specialists in demanding research, development and innovation management and leadership positions in the music industry and music education. Graduates with a Master’s degree in Music Pedagogy or Music Performance are professionals with a great aptitude for continuous learning, strong communication and interaction skills needed in specialist work and remarkable competence in their area of specialty.
The curriculum of the program offers a framework within which a personal development plan is devised for each student. Students will select a combination of classes that are necessary for their professional development. This blended learning program consists of specialist lectures, workshops, peer teamwork and individual mentoring in the form of on-campus and online meetings as well as distance teaching and learning. It is possible to complete the program while working part-time or even full-time.
Objectives
- to develop expertise needed in current and foreseeable duties of performing musicians and music pedagogues.
- to strengthen competence needed in research, development and innovation in the music industry.
- to support planning, execution and evaluation of RDI projects that respond to topical challenges.
- to encourage music-related research, development, and innovation that requires specialist expertise.
Development
Curriculum development and collaboration with industry partners is based on the international competency descriptions outlined by the Erasmus / Polifonia network and published by Association Européenne des Conservatoires (AEC).
Curriculum development is being carried out by members of the Music Department faculty, Metropolia Master's degree network and the Professional Advisory Board for the Music Department, as well as Master's degree students and representatives of the music industry. The curriculum is being developed through an anticipatory, continuous and systematic process.
