Learning outcomes

The objective of the course is to give the student an overview of the three areas of sustainable development and corporate responsibility (environmental, financial and social responsibility) and the role and effects of ICT in the field of sustainability. After the completion of the course, the student knows the impact of ICT and his/her own area of specialization and is able to plan and implement sustainable products and services.

Content

- components of sustainability: environmental, social, financial
- life cycle approach and the principles of sustainable product design (e.g. dematerialization, detoxification, recyclability)
- environmental impacts of the devices and materials of ICT and their reduction (e.g. material and energy efficiency, emissions, waste)
- sustainable logistics
- sustainability in the global ICT networks (e.g. subcontractors' environmental responsibility and employees' rights)

- the aspects of SD widely both in her/his own sector (IT, media, logistics) and in the other areas of the society
- the major development tools and methods SD and corporate social responsibility (GRI, ISO 26000, ISO 14001, EMAS, etc.)

- identify, evaluate and develop SD activities in a company in her/his own branch
