Objective
After having completed the course the student knows the juridical, administrative and contentual process of creating a local master plan. The student understands the meaning of local master plan in the land use planning system and in the guidance of the urban structure. The student can apply and analyze different GIS data material in the creation of the local master plan. The student can create the local master plan with a GIS software including the plan symbols, reason the made plan solutions and evaluate the impacts of the local master plan.
Content
National Land Use Objectives, regional planning, different types of local master plans, required content of the local master plan, background studies and reports, creation process, interaction, legal consequences, urban structure, review of residual property units, dimensioning, creation of theme maps, structural models and the local master plan with a GIS software, creation of plan symbols and plan provisions as well as the impact evaluation of the local master plan, reasoning of the plan solutions
Location and time
16 lessons, of which six are compulsory.
Myllypuro campus, Mondays 12-16.
20.1. we will hold a seminar and go on a field trip (9-16).
28.4. we will present the course exercises and the day in question must be booked in full

Teaching methods
The course includes lectures and assignments. The assignments include one field trip, which is scheduled for 20.1.
As part of the course, the following outputs must be prepared:
- planning situation (Word)
- thematic map (preferably QGIS or similar) - group work
- future vision (preferably QGIS or similar) - group work
- structural model (preferably QGIS or similar) - group work
- partial master plan map (QGIS) and regulations (QGIS/Word) - independent work
- description of the plan solution and assessment of the plan's impacts (Word) - independent work
Group work must be participated in and independent work must also be prepared within the agreed deadlines. The work will be presented and presentations must be attended.

Planning map and regulations (80% of the grade)
Impact assessment (10%)
Description of the planning solution (10%).
In addition, the participants must participate in thematic map, future vision and structural model assignments and present the plan. Group work is graded pass/fail.
