Objective

The student
• is able to use the basic equipment in the laboratory safely and correctly
• masters the basic techniques of laboratory work
• understands the importance of equipment maintenance in terms of asepsis and clinical laboratory work
• is able to select the tools on the basis of use and the principles of sustainable development
• is familiar with the key content of occupational safety in health care from the viewpoint of clinical laboratory work regulated by chemical legislation. Is able to comply with occupational safety regulations, and maintains occupational safety through their own action
• understands how disposable items and unnecessary chemicals are disposed of and how to keep wastage to a minimum
• understands the importance of quality assurance in laboratory methods.

• Sustainable development in terms of basic techniques of laboratory work

Location and time

The detailed course schedule can be found in the timetable.
Lectures will take place according to the timetable, either on the Myllypuro campus or remotely.
Laboratory instruction will be held on the Myllypuro campus.

NOTE! Please note the required prerequisite studies for the course. The following prerequisite course must be fully and successfully completed before the course begins: Clinical procedures in laboratory work.

If any parts of the prerequisite studies are incomplete at the end of the registration period, the student must contact the coordinating teacher to agree on how to complete them. If the prerequisite course or any of its components are still incomplete, registration for the course is conditional and requires that the prerequisite course (including exams, assignments, and lab work) is successfully completed. Course participation may be interrupted if the prerequisite course is failed.

If the student has a decision for individual support that affects the completion of the course, they must contact the coordinating teacher immediately after the registration period ends.
