Objective

Students are able to describe the key processes of embryology until the end of the organogenesis stage. They can explain the principles and processes of the development of the human body.
Development of a child:
Based on their physiological knowledge on this development, students are able to perceive functional connections and their effects on the human body. They know how to apply this knowledge to their treatment practices independently.
Obstetrics and gynaecology:
Students are familiar with the abnormalities and dysfunctions of the structure and function of the pelvic area. They identify and define the most common disorders related to the menstrual cycle, gynaecological diseases, pregnancy, labour and menopause as well as their treatment practices. Based on their gynaecological competence, students identify functional relations and are able to apply this knowledge to their treatment practices independently. They recognise the changes brought about by pregnancy and birth to the body and their impact on it.
Gerontology and geriatrics:
Students are familiar with the changes in the human body related to ageing, identify major illnesses and know how to describe their prevention and options for care.
Clinical psychology
After completing the study unit, students understand the modern concept of mental health and mental capacity as well as comprehend the significance of mental resources to human adaptation and wellbeing. They recognise clients’ traumatic crisis and symptoms of mental problems, know how to apply support systems to their clients’ needs in these situations and refer clients to mental health services if required. Students have the competence to good encountering of clients with mental health problems and psychosomatic symptoms.

Content

Embryology:
Conception, formation of blastocyst, gastrulation, formation of embryonic disk, neurulation and organogenesis. Significance of intracellular interaction for the development process. Segmentation of the spine and peripheral nervous system. Main features of formation of bones, muscles, fasciae and body cavities. Development of foetus.
Development of a child:
Developmental phases, functional connections and disorders.
Obstetrics and gynaecology:
Structure and function of the pelvic area and their abnormalities, functional disorders as well as their effects on the body. Physiological perspectives of pregnancy and labour, disorders and complications in the process. Most common gynaecological disorders, examinations and surgical operations. Female hormonal life cycle. Pregnancy and health challenges related to it (Hepatosis. Asthma. Cardiac diseases. Rheuma. Epilepsy. Toxaemia. Diabetes). Childbirth, alleviation of pain and C-section. Hemorrhage and trauma in childbirth and in the postpartum period.
Gerontology and geriatrics:
Gerontology and geriatrics as fields of science. Ageing theories. Changes due to ageing in various organ systems. Major old-age illnesses and their treatment.
Clinical psychology
Mental health, traumatic crisis and mental resources. Clients with mental problems: recognising most common mental health disorders, preventative mental health care and referring to treatment. Psychosomatics: relation between the body and mind, differential diagnosis of somatic and psychosomatic pain as well as somatoform symptoms.
