Objective
Students are able to name and clarify the structures and function of the spine and thorax regionally and segmentally. They can describe and palpate the normal movement of the spine. Students are able to explain the development of the back as well as the effects of pathological changes and deformities on movement. Students know how to describe the significance of the biomechanical approach to osteopathy and are able to demonstrate the force working on the musculoskeletal system by means of mechanical concepts. They understand the biomechanical features of the musculoskeletal system.
Content
Structures of the spine. Normal movement of the spine, coupled movement, SI joint, innervation of the spine. Vascular system and biomechanics of the spinal cord and meninges. Structures of the chest, respiration and basics of the lymphatic system. Structure and function of the temporomandibular joint. Biomechanical properties of tissues and structures. Myofascia and tensegrity in human anatomy.
