Learning outcomes

Students
- recognise and classify the key elements and compounds, explain the basic phenomena of chemistry and solve general chemistry calculations
- describe the systematics, structures and significance of organic compounds
- use the concepts and knowledge of chemistry in biomedical laboratory work

Content

Names and classification of elements and compounds; chemical bonds, polarity, mixtures, dissolution, chemical reactions, acids and bases, buffer solutions; mass, content and pH calculations.
Hydrocarbons and hydrocarbon derivatives and their structural formulae, chemical reactions of functional groups, isomers and the significance of isomerism.
