Learning outcomes

Student
- understands the basic methods of nuclear medicine and knows the preparation and safe use of radiopharmaceuticals
- understands the operating principles of isotope equipment
- knows the range of usage of most common examinations and interventions
- is able to take part carrying out most common examinations and interventions and applies the principles of radiation protection and quality assurance when working with isotopes

Content

Radioactive scattering, radiant energy and radiopharmaceuticals.
The operating principles of a gamma camera and positron emission tomography, and the principles of examination analyses.
Applicability and implementation of nuclear medicine examinations and interventions.
Principles and administration of isotope treatment.
Safe use of radiopharmaceuticals, patient doses and their assessment, reference levels.
Evaluation of radiation risk and explaining this understandably to the patient.
Radiation safety and quality assurance.

Prerequisites

Patient safety and developing expertice in the medical use of radiation.
