Learning outcomes
Students know how to interview their patient, implement examination routines and analyse posture. They are able to plan and implement theme days developing patient education and interaction skills at Positia. Students can work in the office of Positia and carry out duties at the reception. They are able to act as members of the work community and assess their own development by means of a development portfolio.
Basics of psychology and basis for therapeutic competence: 1 cr
After completing the study unit, students are able to define psychological phenomena and consider basic principles of therapeutic approach to their work. They realise the significance of their own personality to interaction. Students are able to conduct a motivating interview and capable of interaction as well as give reflection of client service from an ethical viewpoint. They learn to establish the limits of their professional expertise and wellbeing at work.
Pharmacology: 1 cr
Students understand the concepts of pharmacology, pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics. They know how to take into account the effects of medicines, their administration and special requirements of various age groups as part of their patient’s state of health and symptoms.
Content
Observing more experienced osteopathy students. Interview skills. Observation skills. Palpation skills. Examination routines. Analysis of posture. Working at the reception. Cooperation skills. Self-reflection.

Helping other people by using own personality as a tool. Motivating interview and interaction. Psychological phenomena, basic principles, ethical questions and own wellbeing in therapeutic interaction.
Pharmacology: 1 cr
Terminology and research activities in pharmacology. Pharmacodynamics and pharmacology. Different ways of administering medicines and side effects. Cardiovascular medication. Medication of respiratory symptoms and illnesses. Medication of neurological diseases. Medication of acute and chronic pain and infections. Physiatric examination and treatment methods.
Prerequisites
The student advisor will recommend optional programme components for each student based on their individual study plan.

Introduction to psychology and basic therapeutic skills (pass H/fail 0) 1 ECTS credit: active participation in contact teaching (continuous assessment) and a written reflective learning assignment, 100%.
