Objective

The student can define the significance of recording techniques in successful sound production and can recognize the characteristics of different microphone types. The student can describe different features, functions and placements of microphones in recording situations. The student is able to plan and implement a recording session in a professional sound studio and is able to collaborate with musicians in a recording situation. The student is able to listen both critically and analytically.

Content

Studio work, music technology knowledge and skills. Planning, organising and executing a large recording session. Recording assignments.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

- The student is capable of collaborating with a group of musicians in a studio environment.
- The student knows how to handle and use microphones appropriately in different recording situations and in a studio environment.
- The student knows the basics of troubleshooting and problem solving in a demanding studio environment.
- The student can complete and submit set exercises and assignments according to schedule.

Qualifications

The student knows how to operate music production and studio equipment on a basic level. The student knows the fundamentals and terminology of hearing, sound and acoustics, the operating principles of electronic music devices and instruments, and is capable of searching for information regarding these. The student is acquainted with basic studio equipment and signal routing and knows how to use them appropriately in practical applications.
