Objective

Students are able to apply and deepen the knowledge they have acquired during their studies. Students can further develop their competence by working in projects and productions. Students learn to control technical entities and the inherent applications in professional performing arts productions. They understand the technical, organizational and performance-specific challenges related to live performance productions. Students develop their project management skills. While working on a project, students are able to plan their work, draw up technical documents and report on their contribution to the project.

Content

he main purpose of the projects is to further develop the project management, interaction, documentation and technical skills.

Students complete a variety of projects, some of which are undertaken with an industry partner.

This module may include also lectures, workshops and other learning methods.

Further information

The course requires at least 80% attendance. The procedure for replacing the absence is agreed with the teacher in charge of the course unit. The schedule of the course can be found in Lukkari. Further information about the workshops in the course can be found in a separate document. All parts of the course must be completed successfully.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students can identify the different phases of a project. Students are able to schedule their work in the project and take the safety practices into account. During the project, students need assistance only occasionally. Students can write reports and draw up technical documents. They understand the importance of efficient organization in live performance projects. Students are able work in a team.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students can identify the different phases of a project and see the project as a whole. Students are able to plan and organize their work in the project as well as the work of the team. Students are safety-oriented and they demonstrate mastery of the key technical skills of the trade.
Students are able to draw up explicit technical documents and reports with appropriate software. In the reports, students are able to introduce and explain the choices they made.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students master the main tools of project planning and they are able to plan and organize the work of a team. Students contribute to the creation of a safe working environment and safe working practices. Students have solid trade-specific skills and they are capable of demanding technical planning. In the reports, students are able to introduce their choices with thorough argumentation. Technical documentation is comprehensive, explicit and logical. Students have good teamwork and organizational skills.

Qualifications

Participant is acquainted with the use of theatre and performance technology in different environments and knows essential safety requirements and practices of technical theatre work. Participant has basic knowledge and skills to use light, sound, stage and/or video systems in the extent required by the project studies.

Accomplishment methods

Projects are carried out under the supervision of a department instructor.
