Objective
Students know the equipment that belong to a lighting system, their features, what they can be used for, operating principles and special requirements of moving lights. They know how to set up and use lighting systems. They are able to draw up and interpret lighting plots. Students know the safety risks inherent in lighting systems and take them into consideration as they are using lighting systems. They are able to use and apply these skills when working in the technical crew of a live performance.
Content
Core Contents:
Lighting systems, light sources, moving lights and light documentation.
The course covers lighting systems as a whole as well as their parts, lighting consoles, dimmers and lamps, and their cabling.
Students are introduced to alternative light sources and new types of spotlights. They learn the basic principles of moving lights, different types of spotlights and their technical features.
Students learn to use lighting equipment in live performance productions and to know their requirements and possibilities. The course covers the various symbols and notation using lighting plots. Students learn to use the information of lighting documents to define the time, space and staff requirements in setting up and striking a live production and to do lighting documentation also in Finnish and English.
The course comprises lectures, practical assignments and work experience. English skills are learned during the Professional English course.
