Objective

Upon completion of the course, the students will have an understanding of diversity at workplace and working in multicultural teams. They will have acquired an understanding of culture and diversity and developed their presentation and demonstration skills. They will have applied and developed their skills in critical thinking and writing as well as their discussion skills on challenging and sensitive cultural issues.

- Theoretical approaches to analyzing culture
- Synergy of business and culture
- Communication styles in multicultural teams
- Presentation and communication in multicultural incidents
- Dealing with diversity at workplace

Location and time

Course Kickoff | Myyrmäki campus | Classroom C310 | Tuesday 26.10.2021 | 5 - max. 8.30 pm.
For students who are unable to attend the kickoff in person, a Zoom link is available on the front page of the OMA course workspace.

As agreed during the course kickoff, the (unique) link for each Zoom session will be posted on the front page of our OMA course workspace so that it is available for those who need it before the session begins. All sessions will take place synchronously onsite in classroom A207 and in Zoom.

All sessions = Tuesday evenings (17.00-20.30) specifically: November 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th; December 14th [we will NOT meet on December 7th].

Both Finnish and English will be used as working languages.

Students are free to take part in the course in Finnish and / or English. All learning tasks may be done in Finnish or English.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Students have achieved the course objectives fairly. Students will be able to identify, define and use the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student understands the criteria and principles of the expertise development.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students have achieved the course objectives well, even though the knowledge and skills need improvement on some areas. Students are able to define the course concepts and models and are able to justify the analysis. The student is able to apply their knowledge in leisure, study and work situations. The student understands the importance of expertise in the field of business and is able to analyze his/her own expertise.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Students have achieved the objectives of the course with excellent marks. Students master commendably the course subject area’s concepts and models. Students are able to make justified and fluent analysis and to present concrete development measures. The students are well prepared to apply their knowledge in leisure, study and work situations. Students are able to analyze the business sector expertise and the evolvement of their own expertise.
