Synthesis and Sampling (5 ECTS)

Objective

The student becomes familiar with sound synthesis and the operating principles and architectures of synthesizers. The student knows how to design and produce desired sounds and effects in a digital audio workstation environment. The student understands the operating principles of sound samplers as well as knows how to use them and how to build their own sampling instruments. The student is able to use sound synthesis and sampling in a creative manner in their own music making.

Opiskelijat voivat halutessaan käyttää luokan 245 ja kosketinsoitinstudion lk 334 välineitä. Ryhmä voi olla välillä yhdessä ja välillä kahdessa ryhmässä ( Ryhmä 1 klo 9.00-10.30 ja ryhmä 2 klo 10.45-12.15). Toivottavasti maaliskuusta alkaen uuden talon kosketinsoitinstudiossa AS523.Opettajina toimivat AriPekka Korhonen (synteesi) ja Ville Riippa(sämpläys). Ryhmiin jako toteutetaan kurssin alkaessa.

Content scheduling

Teaching schedule:
- synthesis and sampling on Wednesdays between 9.00-12.15 in classroom 245 and in keyboard studio 334 (in two groups, group 1 9.00-12.15, group 2 10.45-12.15). From March in the new house keyboard studio AS523. Teachers are Ari Pekka Korhonen(synthesis) and Ville Riippa (sampling). The members of the group will be divided in groups in the beginning of the course. Starting day is 20.1., classroom 245 at 9.00.

- Completing and submitting the given exercises and assignments according to the agreed schedule
- Preparing a final work, in the music of which the student has used sampling instruments constructed by themselves and self-programmed sounds that utilize various forms of synthesis.
