Content

Pop music skills is divided into two parts: Popular Music History and Popular Music Theory.

The history section deals with the subject from the perspectives of personal and band history, central phenomena and events of popular music, aiming to give the student a clear picture of the development of popular music. The history section contains audio examples and assignments, as well as written materials. The subject is examined mainly from the 1950s to the 2000s. The content includes listening to the works of prominent artists, important musical phenomena, aesthetics and characteristics of music styles, the main features of the development of music technology, and partly addressing the context of music in time and society. Teaching takes place through lectures, independent work and group work.

The aim of the theory section is to give the student a clear picture of the musical characteristics of popular music through examples of listening, playing, singing and transcription. During the course, the student must make one band transcription containing the melody, chords and other background in the form of personalized parts. There will also be other set assignments. Teaching takes place through lectures, independent work and group work.
