Objective

Students learn the issues to be discussed during the course in heat transfer technology concepts and energy efficiency so that they will be able to solve the main problems, to apply their knowledge in subsequent intermediate level studies and to provide expertise in future occupations.

Content

1. Conduction, multi-layered walls
2. Convection, dimensioless numbers of heat transfer
3. Radiation
4. Overall heat transfer, heat exchangers, and calculation and design models.
5. Evaporation and condensation.
6. Multi-stage evaporation

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student is able to define and describe basic concepts and phenomena included in the course in a qualitative way and to compute straightforward problems mainly based on inserting a correct quantity into a correct formula.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student is able to define or describe the concepts and phenomena in one´s own words; he also knows how to explain the origin and meaning of related equations and to critically evaluate different solutions. The student is able to select and size heat exchangers to process demands.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to characterize and model phenomena on the basis of reasonable assumptions as well as to analyze, evaluate and modify solutions and the model when needed.. The student is able to select and size a heat exchanger and optimize heat exchanger networks according to process demands. The student knows types of different heat exchangers.
