Objective

The student
• understands the design principles of woven textiles and learns the technical basics of weaving
• is able to identify the weave structures of woven fabrics and apply weaving theory in practical work
• understands the influence of material and structures on the properties of woven textiles and is able to create moods using different textures, weaves and yarns
• understands the concept of a textile collection and is able to evaluate the suitability of the fabric’s properties for different uses.

• Weaving tools and equipment
• Structures, design and construction of woven fabrics
• Effect of the material and weave in woven textiles
• Creating a mood and building a collection

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student
• knows the basics of woven textile design and manufacturing
• masters weaving theory and bonding structures
• knows the effects of material and structure on the properties and usability of woven textiles
• masters the weaving hardware and computer program.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student
• masters the basics of woven textile design and manufacturing
• is well versed in weaving theory and bonding structures
• masters the effects of material and structure on the properties and usability of woven textiles and is able to apply weaving theory in practical work
• is well versed in weaving hardware and computer software.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student
• masters the basics of the design and manufacture of widely woven textiles
• has an excellent command of weaving theory and bonding structures
• is well aware of the effects of material and structure on the properties and usability of woven textiles and is able to apply the theory of weaving in practical work
• is able to skillfully use weaving hardware and a computer program.
