Fashion and Clothing: Introduction to Studies and Industry (4 ECTS)

Objective

After completing the course, the student
• knows physical and social study environment, as well as the study and guidance practices and student services of the University of Applied Sciences
• understands the structure of curriculum and is able to work on the personal study plan (PSP)
• is familiar with the information systems needed in studies, will be able to handle information appropriately, identify the most common information security threats, and be prepared to meet the requirements of working life in terms of information security skills
• understands the principles of large language models and their advantages and disadvantages, and will be able to use artificial intelligence (AI) in a responsible and ethical way in learning
• knows the main features of fashion culture and system
• has an overview of the fashion and clothing industry as a global sector, understands the importance of sustainability, and knows the significance of standardisation in the industry
• identifies the competencies provided by the education to enter the working life.

• Study environment and practices, guidelines and rules, student services
• Curriculum, personal study plan (PSP), guidance services
• Information systems of Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and basic knowledge and skills in information security and data protection
• Fundamentals of the responsible and ethical use of AI in studies
• Fashion and clothing industry in a broad perspective
• Sustainability and circular economy as part of the content of the degree and curriculum
• Key standards in the fashion and clothing industry
• Alumni and/or company visits

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Pass: Students know Metropolia University of Applied Sciences and the degree programme of their own as a study environment. They can use the information systems and services of the UAS in their goal-oriented studies. They understand the importance of information security and data protection and can use AI ethically. Students have an overview of the fashion and clothing industry as a global sector and its role in the circular economy. They are familiar with the professional competencies and the broad field of work available to Fashion and Clothing graduates (Bachelors of Culture and Arts). They have completed and submitted the course assignments satisfactorily.
