Objective
o The Sustainable Procurement (SP) course is intended to guide learners in making decisions about purchasing of goods and services with a focus on improving financial, environmental, and social performance. SP is rooted in life-cycle cost and is a solid and tangible improvement in corporate financial performance and reputation. The content will entail all the key green procurement and sustainable procurement areas.
Content
o Students will apply the tools and techniques to develop a business case for:
? structuring an organization’s procurement process in the realm of financial, environmental and social responsibilities;
? creating a protocol for suppliers’ selection and performance; and
? determining a viable performance measurement tool for reporting.
Location and time
- August 11-14 in person teaching in our campus either morning or afternoon time slot FOLLOWED BY
- August 18-20 online continuation on evening time (evening in Finland, morning in Canada)
Teaching methods
• Intensive course with a practical exercise
• Students are required to develop a written business case
• Students are required to deliver an oral presentation of the business case
Further information
• Bess has over 20 years of professional experience, including over 10 years in leadership roles in both the private and public sectors in Canada. She is a seasoned supply chain management and project management specialized in public procurement with a strong background in operation and capital project procurement and delivery. She has led various procurement, technology, organization transformation projects from concept to operations.
• A confident facilitator, Bess engages stakeholders through workshops, interviews, multi-department working groups and working committee engagements to understand existing pain points across people, processes, technology, and to gather their feedback on work being performed. Working as both client and contractor Bess understands what to expect and the level of detail managing projects from both perspectives.
• Bess is currently a full-time professor at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Canada. She teaches a variety of courses related to sustainability and supply chain management in the post-graduate diplomas in Global Business Management and Green Business Management & Sustainability. Bess holds an Executive Master of Business Administration in Innovation Leadership from University of Fredericton and a Bachelor of Arts in French as a Second Language from Université Laval. Both degrees are from Canada. She is currently working on her Doctorate of Business Administration in Sustainable Innovation Management from the Business Science Institute in Luxembourg, ICN Business School in Nancy, France and Université Jean Moulin Lyon III in Lyon, France. Her thesis topic is Sustainable Procurement and Modern Slavery. Given her professional experience, Bess is passionate about her research topic and anticipates developing an expected managerial recommendation on her thesis.
