Learning outcomes

Student
- understands the importance of legislation and guidelines on intravenous drug and fluid therapy
- knows the process of safe intravenous drug, fluid and nutrition therapy and transfusion
- understands the importance of drug therapy in the treatment of different diseases and recognises different groups of drugs
- can guide a client/patient in the administration of intravenous drugs and fluids.

Professional role, tasks and responsibilities in intravenous drug and fluid therapy
Safe peripheral and central intravenous drug, fluid and nutritional therapy
Safe transfusion process
Key groups of medicines
Fundamentals of fluid therapy and fluid balance
Risk factors, harms and complications associated with intravenous drug and fluid therapy
Guidance in drug and fluid therapy
Health technology related to drug therapy

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology. Basic knowledge of Pharmacotherapy.
