Objective
Students are able to:
Identify and describe the different refractive errors, related symptoms and treatment
describe the general development of refractive errors
describe the mechanism of accommodation and it´s effects on vision
describe different methods to measure amplitude of accommodation and normal values
describe the definition of visual acuity and the factors affecting it
calculate the size of the required optotype at different distances
calculate the change in visual acuity at different distances
structure of retinoscopy and main parts of the phoropter
Content
Refractive status: epidemiology, patient history, symptoms, identification, management, spectacle correction and prognosis
Aphakia and pseudophakia, anisometropia: definitions
Anamnesis, patient history
Autorefractometry; principle, use and utilization
Examination with retinoscopy

Qualifications
The prerequisite for this course is the successful completion of a valid course of study in accordance with the curriculum in force, where the student has demonstrated sufficient knowledge and skills in the following subjects: Understanding and knowledge of lens optics, lens types and prismatic effects. Basics of general anatomy and physiology, as well as an understanding of the principles and key legislation of social and health care activities.
The prerequisites are fulfilled when the student has passed the following courses: Optics of the Spectacle Lens, General Anatomy and Physiology and Professional in Social and Health Care.
