Objective
Students are able to:
Identify the elements involved in fitting and advising on the use of suitable eyeglasses and sunglasses
Select and dispense spectacles according to anatomical, cosmetic and lifestyle aspects
Identify sustainable operations in an optical practice environment
Basic elements regarding to manufacturing and repairing spectacles in optical shops procedures
Describe special lenses in spectacles
Describe the basic features of lighting and guide in choosing the right lighting
Describe the properties of protective eyewear and sunglasses
Identify different types of aberrations and understand the significance and the effect in spectacle lenses.
Content
Measuring different lens types
Adjusting spectacles for the customer, considering the characteristics of different frame materials
Grinding and glazing spectacles independently
Basic maintenance and repair of spectacles and protective eyewear
Choosing appropriate lens treatments and coatings
Use of a lensmeter
Observation and getting acquainted with the optical store
Visual optics:
Retinal image quality
Properties of protective eyewear and sunglasses
Absorptive lenses
Protective and occupational eyewear, spectacles for leisure activities and hobbies

Qualifications
The prerequisite for this course is the successful completion of a valid course of study in accordance with the curriculum in force, where the student has demonstrated sufficient knowledge and skills in the following subjects: Understanding and knowledge of lens optics, lens types and prismatic effects.
