Independent clinical oral health care (5 ECTS)

Objective

-analyze and implement oral health care for patients of different ages at the Metropolia’s oral hygiene teaching clinic
- are able to take into account the psychological and social factors of the patient when planning and implementing treatment and planning maintenance care
- recognize the need for pain relief and are able to use topical and local anesthetics
- are able to document the course of patient care into the patient information system

Completion alternatives

Clinical practice in independent oral health care work can be performed at the health care centres as assessed by the oral hygienist instructor. A separate set of criteria has been made for out-of-school training, which has been discussed with the group SXP22S1 in the previous semester.

Students will be notified of possible internships by 30th of May.

Student workload

The oral care teaching clinic 135 hours, of which the clinical working time must be 80% full. Clinical working hours also include private (AVI) services and other work shown by the teacher at the clinic.

Patient visits must be at least 38 visits. The student treats patients of all ages depending on the situation of the clinic's patient division and is also responsible for the most difficult patient care.

Aktiivinen läsnäolo opetusklinikalla toteutuvassa työelämäharjoittelussa
Aseptinen toiminta
Potilasasiakirjamerkintöjen huolellinen kirjaaminen
Potilaiden hoitojaksot suoritettuna loppuun. Paranemistarkastuksia tai potilaan hoitoa muutoin ei siirretä muille kuin erityisissä tilanteissa sovitusti opettajan kanssa.
Yhteisvastuullinen toiminta (mm. annettujen asiakaspalvelu- ja välinevastaavavuorojen hoitaminen, klinikan sujuvan toiminnan edistäminen aina klinikalla ollessa)
Läsnäolo hammaslääketieteen kandidaattien yhteistyöpäivissä
Reflektioihin osallistuminen
Reflektiolomakkeen täyttäminen ja palauttaminen määräaikaan mennessä
Arviointikeskusteluun osallistuminen
Poissaolojen korvaaminen sovitusti

Opettajat arvioivat jokaisen opiskelijan klinikkaharjoittelun osaamista klinikkaharjoittelujakson ajan. Mikäli potilaskäyntejä ei tule riittävästi tai osaaminen ei ole riittävällä tasolla opettajien arvioinnin perusteella (perustuen arviointikriteereihin), opiskelija sopii opettajien kanssa täydentävien vuorojen ja potilashoitojen suorittamisesta.


Arviointi perustuu opintojakson tai -kokonaisuuden osaamistavoitteisiin ja arviointikriteereihin. Arviointi-perusteet ja arvosanan muodostuminen kuvataan yksityiskohtaisesti opintojakson toteutussuunnitelmassa ja ne käsitellään opiskelijoiden kanssa opintojakson toteutuksen alussa. Opintojakson suoritus arvioidaan hyväksytyksi vasta, kun kaikki pakolliset toteutusosat on arvioitu hyväksytyiksi.

Opintojaksototeutuksen arvosana merkitään opintosuoritusrekisteriin viimeistään neljän työviikon kuluessa toteutuksen päättymisajan jälkeen.

Opiskelijan tulee miettiä ja suunnitella valmistumisen ajankohta ylläoleva huomioon ottaen.

Further information

Before the final training period in Teaching Clinic the student has had to accomplish previous clinical training periods.
All the patients' papers have to filled by teachers.
Anesthetic form have to be approved before finishing project.
The student has to reread theory of the older studies so they could treat patients independently.
The student is expected to show expertise in seminars.
Special dentists lecturing are compulsory before starting clinical period outside of Metropolia
The student who speed up his studies has to be approved H3 before the project and been discussed with teachers.
