Objective

The student knows their physical and social study environment and the academic counselling and study practices at the Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. The student knows the structure of the curriculum and they are able to complete their study plan. The student recognises their strengths and development areas in learning. The student is capable of international skills development and goal-oriented career planning.

The student is able to communicate and interact in studies and at work. The student is able to produce various types of texts in their own field for different channels. The student is familiar with the good practices of oral and written communication and is able to apply them appropriately. The student is able to utilise their language and communication skills for the continuous development of their thinking and expertise.

The student is able to work in a study-related IT environment. They can use information systems, office software and social media tools necessary for their studies.

The student is able to manage information appropriately, identify the most common information security threats and be prepared to meet workplace requirements related to information security skills.

The student understands the principles of large language models and their advantages and disadvantages. The student is able to use AI responsibly and ethically in learning, taking responsibility for the content of their own work and following good scientific practice.

• Academic counselling and study practices, learning and study skills, curricula, study planning and Individual Study Plan (ISP)

• Information about work in the relevant industry and international skills
• Expert-level text skills and writing of professional texts
• Interaction skills: customer communication, group work and negotiation situations
• Presentation skills, effective speaking and giving feedback
• Communication planning and assessment
• Good practices of digital communication
• Pertinent information systems at Metropolia, office suite software and social media tools
• Basic knowledge and skills in information security and data protection
• Training and critically evaluating your own AI model.
• Understanding the concepts underlying AI and the correct context of use

Student workload

Work required is heavily dependent on students earlier knowledge in the subject.

One credit is approximately 27 hours on students work. This course is 5 credits which means 135 hours of work in average.

Further information

The course requires at least 80% attendance. The procedure for replacing the absence is agreed with the teacher in charge of the course unit. The schedule of the course can be found in Lukkari. All parts of the course must be completed successfully. A common timetable for the implementation of the project will be drawn up.

Partial use of AI-based tools is possible. The instructions for using AI-based tools are task-specific.
