Objective
Students are able to:
describe the structure of the focimeter
measure the dioptric power and the prismatic effect of spectacles with a focimeter
use safely automated edge grinding machine and grind basic lenses to prescription
manufacture eyeglasses according to optical tolerances
perform simple spectacle frame maintenance and repairs
evaluate the quality and grinding accuracy of manufactured spectacles
explain about safety regulations and act responsibly with different chemicals used in the optical practice.
Content
Manufacturing spectacles; lens grinding to different frame materials according to prescription, finishing the lens edges, reducing lens diameter and positioning of the lenses in the frame
Tolerances for the spectacle manufacturing
Simple spectacle frame maintenance, repairs and replacement of spare parts
Structure and use of focimeter
Equipment needed for spectacle manufacturing and repairing
Chemical substances used in optician's work, chemical safety and safety regulations
Location and time
Autumn semester 2025, the 2nd period. Lectures are conducted either on campus or remotely (Teams or Zoom). Workshops are on Myllypuro campus.
