Objective

After completing the course the student can use different applications and services used for creating both online and offline communication elements, as well as format picture files with an image editing software.

Content

Editing, formatting and manipulating text and pictures

Saving pictures for different purposes

Using content management software for use and updating of websites

Location and time

Weeks 35–50 (25.8. - 8.12.2025), Metropolia Myyrmäki Campus

Materials

All materials and guides will be provided via Moodle platform during the course.
No need to purchase software; classroom computers will be equipped with the necessary tools.

Classroom sessions (tool instruction, exams, hands-on guidance)
Supervised studio session (photography)
Individual project work (in- and outside class)
Peer and instructor feedback
Guided use of Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Adobe Camera RAW, and Canva

Completion alternatives

This course cannot be passed without completing:
Visuals exam
Photoshop exam
Premiere Pro exam
Studio photography session
Final project (includes project plan and final presentation)

There are no alternative assignments to replace these core activities.

Student workload

In-class sessions (lectures, exams, studio), 30 h
Independent practice with tools, 25 h
Project planning and development, 40 h
Editing photos/video and creating visuals, 20 h
Finalizing & presenting the project, 12 h

Further information

The instructor is present during weeks 35-44 and 48-49. Weeks 45-46-47 are for independent work.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student has achieved the course objectives fairly. The student will be able to identify, define and use the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student understands the criteria and principles of the expertise development.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student has achieved the course objectives well, even though the knowledge and skills need improvement on some areas. The student is able to define the course concepts and models and are able to justify the analysis. The student is able to apply his/her knowledge in leisure, study and work situations. The student understands the importance of expertise in the field of business and is able to analyze his/her own expertise.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has achieved the objectives of the course with excellent marks. The student masters commendably the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student is able to make justified and fluent analysis and to present concrete development measures. The student is well prepared to apply his/her knowledge in leisure, study and work situations. The student is able to analyze the business sector expertise and the development of his/her own expertise.

Visual design exam (colour theory, composition, typography, etc.): 10%
Photoshop exam: 10%
Premiere Pro exam: 10%
Studio photography session: 10%
Project plan: 10%
Final project (poster + at least two additional visuals): 45%
Final presentation & peer feedback: 5%
