Further information for students
The course consists of six sessions, during which the English phonetic system is reviewed, particularly from the perspective of classical singing diction, and pronunciation is practised. The course material includes videos presenting various aspects of pronunciation, as well as exploring auditory examples from vocal literature in both British and American English, and written and oral tasks related to song texts.
Assessment methods and criteria
In the written transcription tasks using IPA symbols, the student's ability to perceive phonetic phenomena from the perspective of the English language and their mastery of the IPA symbol system are assessed. The student must be able to distinguish different vowel qualities and accurately notate consonant sounds. In the oral tasks, the student's ability to produce English sounds is particularly evaluated.
