Orientation to Engineering Studies (5 ECTS)

Objective

• Upon completing the course, the student is familiar with Metropolia as a learning environment. They are acquainted with Metropolia's information systems and can use them.
• The student understands the significance of learning and study skills in their studies. They recognize their strengths and areas for development related to their studies.
• The student is familiar with the structure of their degree program's studies and can plan their own studies.
• The student explores the employment opportunities related to their degree program.
• After completing the course, the student can compose basic texts in their field.
• The student can search for and critically evaluate information, using it appropriately.
• The student has mastered the basic skills of oral and written communication.
• The student understands the importance and challenges of communication in various work-related interactive situations and environments.

After completing the basic information security course, the student will be able to handle information appropriately, identify the most common information security threats and be prepared to meet the requirements of working life in terms of information security skills.

After completing the basic course in artificial intelligence, the student will understand the principles of large language models and their advantages and disadvantages. They will be able to use AI in a responsible and ethical way in learning, taking responsibility for the content of their own work and following good scientific practice.

The student has achieved the course objectives fairly. The student will be able to identify, define and use the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student understands the criteria and principles of the expertise development. The student has completed the required learning exercises in minimum requirement level. His/her competences have developed in a way that he/she may complete the remaining studies and finally work in a suitable job position related to this field.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student has achieved the course objectives well, even though the knowledge and skills need improvement on some areas. The student has completed the required learning exercises in good or satisfactory level. The student is able to define the course concepts and models and is able to justify the analysis. The student is able to apply their knowledge in study and work situations. The student understands the importance of expertise in the field and is able to analyze his/her own expertise.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has achieved the objectives of the course with excellent marks. The student master commendably the course subject area’s concepts and models. The student has completed the required learning exercises in good or excellent level. The student is able to make justified and fluent analysis and to present concrete development measures. The student is well prepared to apply their knowledge study and work situations. Students are able to analyze the expertise and the evolvement of their own expertise.

Opintojakson maksimipistemäärä on 50 pistettä, josta viestinnän osuus on 30 pistettä ja orientaation osuus 20 pistettä. Lisäksi jos opiskelijapalautemäärä on opintojaksolla yli 75 %, annetaan jokaiselle opiskelijalle 1 lisäpiste.
