Objective
The student
• knows the social and health care system and the responsibilities of different actors
• knows the key legislation in social and health care
• knows the ethical basis of the social and health care sector
• understands the significance of digital services in social and health services
• knows the basics of client and patient safety
• understands the key practices related to infection control and asepsis and is able to act accordingly
• understands the basics of emergency first aid and is able to respond in common medical emergency and accident situations
• understands guidelines regulating national and international clinical laboratory work and understands the importance of the pre-analytical stage for quality
• understands the principles of biobanks.

Location and time
Online teaching
On-site teaching will take place at Myllypuro campus.
First aid exercises and laboratory sessions focusing on aseptic practices are carried out in small groups at the Myllypuro campus.
Participation in the laboratory sessions is mandatory.

5 x 27 h, 1 ECTS = 27 hours.
The total workload includes teaching, guidance, group work, independent study, exams, and written assignments.

The use of artificial intelligence in assessed assignments is prohibited. Using AI is considered academic misconduct. Students must familiarize themselves with Metropolia’s AI guidelines and adhere to them in their coursework.
The course uses a Moodle workspace. The course key will be provided via OMA before the course begins.

Assessment methods and criteria
The individual assignments must be completed before the training sessions and the small group assignment must be returned by the deadline indicated in Moodle. Obligation to participate in first aid exercises and aseptic practices laboratory sessions according to the schedule.
Assessment for all course components is on a pass/fail basis.
