Objective
The student are able to use mathematical calculation programs in preparing calculations in the construction industry. The student are able to prepare construction and structural drawings with a CAD program and print PDF prints of them in the correct scale. The student can explain the differences between CAD design and data modeling. The student knows how to view the finished data model, extract information and quantities from the data model for report templates, and prepare new views, measurements and PDF printouts from the model for project management and other further use.
Content
The student learn about the use of building industry planning and data modeling software and their features.
BIM Basics
Materials
The learning material will be provided in Moodle at the beginning of the course.
Teaching methods
Distance learning
Exam schedules
The submission dates for the practical assignments will be published in Moodle at the beginning of the course. There is no separate exam.
Student workload
Approximately 25 hours of online lectures and 110 hours of independent work.
(1 ECTS credit = 27 hours of student work)
Evaluation scale
0-5
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The students are able to:
- use a calculator application to make simple calculations
- explain the differences between a CAD drawing and a data model
- prepare a simple structural drawing
- handle the finished data model and can extract information from it.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The students are able to:
- use the calculation application as an aid for vector calculation calculations
- use levels as an aid in CAD drawing
- prints the structural plan in PDF format to the correct scale and on the correct size paper
- extract quantities from the building information model ready for the report, which can be used for making lists of quantities, project management, etc. for further use.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The students are able to:
- use a calculation application to prepare measurement results and graphs of functions
- draw up an acceptable structural and building plan with a CAD program and get it printed in a form approved by the authorities
- knows how to make symbols containing attributes in a CAD program
- knows how to create new views from a ready-made data model and make PDF prints of them in the right scale
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
The students are able to:
- use a calculator application to make simple calculations
- explain the differences between a CAD drawing and a data model
- prepare a simple structural drawing
- handle the finished data model and can extract information from it.
Assessment methods and criteria
There are five learning assignments, of which four must be successfully submitted. The practical assignments are graded on a scale from 0 to 5, and the final grade is based on their average. Failure to submit an assignment will lower the average by one grade point.
Qualifications
Mastering the basics of computer use.
