Objective

The student:
- knows the prehospital patient care process and understands occupational and patient safety as a part of the process
- understands the role of the team leader and can communicate and act effectively as a part of a prehospital care team
- is able to demonstrate systematic patient assessment and understands the principles of prehospital patient needs assessment
- understands the independent ALS level prehospital care of the typical patient groups
- is able to assess the needs to consult medical control and is able to propose a relevant plan of action for patient care
- is able to assess the need for emergent care and can guide the patient in the use of regional emergency care services
- understands the principles of choosing the right transport facility for the patient
- is able to safely conduct a non-transport decision
- is able to contact a relevant agency in the social and healthcare sector to organize a suitable help for the patient according to his assessment
- is able to deliver a report on the prehospital care phase in different situations
- understands the use of ALS level pharmaceuticals
- is able to use ALS level medical equipment related to assessment and prehospital care

Content

- working as a team leader and working in a prehospital care team
- systematic patient assessment and prehospital patient needs assessment
- ALS level prehospital pharmacological care and drug-assisted procedures
- airway and breathing management in ALS level prehospital care
- the use of a monitor-defibrillator and 12-lead ECG interpretation in ALS level prehospital care
- the ALS level prehospital care of the typical patient groups
- decision making process, patient guidance and reporting

Fall semester 2025

Participation in orientation lecture is mandatory. Time and place of the lectures/laborations/simulations can be found in the curriculum.

Evaluating competences evaluation criteria competent/intermediate level is used.

Assessment methods and criteria

EXAM test 50% pass (Evaluation 0-5)
Medicine calculation exam 100% (evaluation pass/fail)

The use of artificial intelligence is allowed for reviewing things, preparing for exams and clarifying concepts. Artificial intelligence cannot replace writing assignments yourself.
Returning course assignments late affects given grade from course.

Qualifications

A minimum of 70 credits of clinical nursing studies.
BLS competence.
The student and tutor teacher go through other recommended studies in the HOPS discussions.
