Objective

Learning outcomes:

Enabling occupation:
The students understand the importance of occupational balance the point of view of promoting a person's well-being and health. The students assess and analyse the impact of environment on the client’s occupational performance, participation and occupational performance. The students find solutions to enable occupational balance and occupational performance in the client’s meaningful activities and environments.

Clinical neuropsychology:
The students master basic neuropsychological knowledge, perceive the connection between the brain function to human function, and apply information when assessing and supporting human occupational performance. The students know the most common causes of the damage to the brain structure and disruption of the brain function, as well as the consequences for mental, physical and social functioning. The students understand the conditions and limits for rehabilitating the adult brain and brain-related problems. The students evaluate their own competence in a multiprofessional team and are able to direct the client to neuropsychological services as needed. The students apply neuropsychological information to occupational therapy.

Clinical neuropsychology (2 ECTS)
- Localization of the brain functions and cognitive functions
- The most common damage and disorder mechanisms behind problems with brain-related functions
- The plasticity of the adult brain and the basics of rehabilitation in brain-related problems
- Neuropsychological and psychologically associated accompanying symptoms
- Occupational therapist in a multiprofessional collaboration with the neuropsychologist
- Applying neuropsychological information to the planning of rehabilitation in occupational therapy.

The students are able to determine the most common causes and consequences of disruption of the brain functioning. The students know the most common rehabilitation methods, opportunities and boundaries for rehabilitation. The students demonstrate that they are able to choose the most suitable rehabilitation methods for occupational therapy and to identify the need for a multiprofessional rehabilitation team.

Clinical neuropsychology:
The students are able to analyse basic neuropsychological information. The students examine a wide range of information about the links between the adult client brain functioning as well as mental, physical and social activities. The students are able to apply information to the causes and consequences of the brain activity disruption when assessing obstacles to human occupational capacity and the importance of rehabilitation in different everyday situations. The students recognize a wide range of rehabilitation methods and opportunities and limits for rehabilitation. The students are able to apply rehabilitation methods to occupational therapy and utilise the expertise of the multiprofessional rehabilitation team.

Clinical neuropsychology:
The students are able to critically evaluate the basic and applied neuropsychological data. The students creatively and in a rehabilitation-oriented way apply information to the links between the adult client brain functioning and mental, physical and social activities. On a case-by-case basis, the students are able to utilize information regarding the causes and consequences of disruption of the brain functioning when assessing obstacles to human functional capacity and the importance of rehabilitation in different everydaysituations. The students demonstrate a wide understanding of rehabilitation methods, rehabilitation opportunities and boundaries and are still able to reflect on the limits of their own competence. The students are able to apply relevant rehabilitation methods to occupational therapy and, if necessary, refer the client to other experts in the multiprofessional rehabilitation team.
