Learning outcomes

The student is able to apply various podiatric evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation methods in a client-centric manner and works independently and responsibly. The student manages the different stages of the podiatric process and executes them independently. The student strengthens the student’s own professional interaction skills, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation competencies as well as the student’s own knowledge base.

The student is able to plan podiatric care that promotes the client’s function and functional capacity in different environments based on multidisciplinary collaboration and together with the client. The student is able to apply evidence-based podiatry in different situations and knows the special aspects of various lower extremity dysfunctions and illnesses. The student is able to guide a clinical practical of students in the early stages of their studies and manages the principle of peer tutoring as well as student instruction in working life. The student improves in career planning and is able to create personal Curriculum Vitae.

High Risk Foot Disorders and Foot Ulcer Management and Treatment
Biomechanics and Rehabilitation of Lower Extremities 3
Podiatric Orthotic Therapy 3

Teaching methods

Internship outside the educational institution at a separately agreed internship place.
The student acquires a traineeship for themselves and, before accepting the place, makes sure that the teacher of the course is suitable for the place.

Location and time

From 1.9.2025

The duration of the internship is 4 weeks (20 days) depending on the internship location. The length of the training day is 7h.

It is possible to complete the internship once the studies in accordance with the curriculum's prerequisite have been completed.

Internship 5 The part of the internship is 4 weeks, which can be divided into a few different internships if desired.

The peer tutoring part takes place in the HyMy Village according to a separately agreed schedule in the 7th semester

Alternative completion methods of implementation

Work experience in podiatry can be credited as part of the work placement part of the work placement through superficialism.

Internship and working life connections

Working life cooperation with podiatrists and their work community and professional teams.

Exam dates and retake possibilities

The student makes a learning diary on a weekly basis in accordance with the assignment given at the beginning of the course and returns it in time to the OMA workspace in the place reserved for it, no later than 20.11.2025

At the beginning of the internship, the goals of the internship are recorded and at the end, self-reflection on how to achieve the goals in Workseed.

Feedback discussion between the supervisor and the student at the end of the internship. This is agreed with the internship provider before the internship begins.

International connections

It is also possible to complete the internship abroad. You should contact Elina Wasenius, who is responsible for the international affairs of the podiatry degree.

The teacher may give additional assignments as a pedagogical solution e.g. to cover for absence.

MATERIALS and assignments created by the teacher are protected under the Copyright law (404/61), and the teacher holds copyright to these creations. Assignments and materials may not be used other than in your own studies. The public distribution of these is only allowed with the permission of the teacher.

In case the student has received a decision for individual support, which can affect the completion of the study unit, the student should be in touch with the responsible teacher of the study unit directly after the ending of the enrolment period.
