Objective

Students recognize hidden, normative concepts and discriminatory attitudes and structures in society and community, which influence the realization of equality. They understand complex dimensions related to minority status and their own perceptions related to diversity e.g. in view of gender, sexuality, family relations, faith and origin. Students recognize ways to diminish polarisation, racism and other forms of discrimination. They know how to apply mediation to promote good ethnic relations, equality and human rights in their work.

Content

Privileges, stereotypes, normativity, discriminatory treatment, discriminatory structures. Intersectionality, gender and sexual equality, diversity, anti-racism. Promotion of equality and non-discrimination, Non-discrimination Act, Act on Equality between Women and Men, drawing up an equality plan, equality as part of human rights, conflict resolution, mediation, democratic responsibility, and effective communication. Simple Finnish vocabulary and phrases used in interactions with diverse service users.
