Learning outcomes

The student can describe the most common neurological disorders that affect functional ability as well as the basics of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of neurological disorders. The student can form a therapeutic relationship with the rehabilitee while considering the most common neuropsychological disorders connected to his/her functional ability and interaction. The student can describe how to utilise neuropsychological information in promoting the rehabilitation of the rehabilitee. The student can assess the functional ability of a severely disabled client who needs special support and his/her close community, as well as identifies changes in functional ability.

Content

Typical neurological disorders that alter functional ability as well as the basics of treatment and rehabilitation
Forming a therapeutic relationship that allows participation of the rehabilitee in case of a difficulty disabled client and his/her close community
Rehabilitee as an active learner with consideration to typical neuropsychological special disorders
Assessment of the rehabilitee's functional ability and the planning of physiotherapy in cooperation with the rehabilitee and the client’s relatives as well as a multidisciplinary network

Prerequisites

Student knows the basics of assessment and promotion of functioning in physiotherapy. Student knows the basics of body functions and structures. Student knows the basics of physiotherapy in musculoskeletal disorders. Student has accomplished minimum of 6 credits of clinical practice in physiotherapy.

Attendance is compulsory for 80% of the course, with any absences above this level being compensated by future implementation. Absences from workshop training (positioning, assisting with transitions and guidance of a stroke rehabilitee) will be compensated by future implementation. The written assignments to be assessed are presented at the orientation.
Attendance in neuropsychology and neurology classes is mandatory. Possible absences will be compensated by written assignments.

If a student fails a course despite repeated attempts or does not complete the required components of a course must register again for the course and complete it in a manner agreed with the lecturer.

Further information for students

The prerequisite for participation in the course is that the previous studies according to the curriculum timing have been mainly completed.

The student confirms their place in the course by attending the first class or, if the student is unable to attend the start of the course due to illness, they can confirm their place by informing the teacher responsible for the course in advance by e-mail.

If the student has individualized educational support / study arrangements, shall this student contact the teacher of the course immediately after the end of the registration period (or latest before the start of the course.)

The teacher's assignments and MATERIALS are works of authorship under the Copyright Act (404/61), to which the teacher holds the copyright. The assignments AND MATERIALS may not be used for any purpose other than your own studies. Their public distribution is only allowed with the permission of the teacher.

The use of artificial intelligence in assignments is not allowed. The use of AI is interpreted as misconduct.

The course uses a Moodle course, to which a course key is provided via OMA before the start of the course.
