Objective

The student is able to describe physical laws and phenomena sufficiently to understand the physical operating principles of the most common methods and devices used in laboratory work. To perform basic calculations and apply these to biomedical laboratory work. To convert units, solve equations, and identify and describe mathematical dependencies. To use spreadsheet software to calculate and analyse statistical parameters and correlation between variables, and interpret and assess statistical reports in laboratory work.

Basic mathematics: Moodle assignments.
Assignment in Mathematics: 16.5.2025
Mathematical statistics: exam 10.10.2025, re-exams 27.11.2025 and 4.12.2025
Physics: Exam 16.12.2024 13.00-14.30 Resits SU202501, SU202503.

There is a "preliminary exam" in physics, which is taken in Moodle, deadline 9.10.2024 8.30. Take a look at ”Fysiikkamatsku_1” chapters 2.1, 2.2, 2.5 (before section 2.5.1), 3, 4.1, 4.2 of the handout. and take the preliminary exam based on them on the first hour to be held. Study material can be used in the exam and you can take the exam as many times as you want. After taking the test, you will receive feedback from the test with hints pointing to the correct answers.

Further information

Tuition in Finnish
Students must confirm their attendance for a course implementation by being present when tuition begins or in another manner agreed with the lecturer; for example, by returning the first course assignment. Students who are unable to attend the first teaching session due to illness may also confirm their attendance by informing the lecturer of this in advance.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

For evaluation criteria, see the attachment.
Assessment criteria for beginners are applied.

Assessment methods and criteria

Mathematics: Test of one's own math skills in Moodle
Mathematical statistics: Exam 100% + lesson tasks must be done
Continuos assessment, home work.
Physics: Continuos assessment, home work.
Physics exam: Relationship between percentage of points of the maximum points and grade: grade 1 = 50% of the total max. points, 2 = 60%, 3 = 70%, 4 = 80%, 5 = 90% (Physics is 40%)(grades 0-5)
You will get plus points in the final exam if the score of the formative test is better than in the final test.
