Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, the student will understand the characteristics of different types of national basic spatial data, their production process and possible applications. The student can independently search for national basic spatial data and use them in an appropriate manner in practical applications.

Content

- Collection and use of the National Land Survey’s basic spatial data using QGIS software
- Reference systems and their implementation
- Elevation models produced from national airborne laser scanning data
- Production of aerial and orthophoto images at the National Land Survey
- Production of 3D building data

Prerequisites

Geographical Information, or a general basic understanding of spatial data production (if the participant is not a graduate student in the Land Surveying degree programme).

Teaching methods

The course will be delivered entirely online, primarily on the Moodle platform. The use of QGIS and CloudCompare is required.

The course will be conducted in the form of web-based, self-paced assignments, mainly on the Moodle platform, including applied QGIS-based assignments.

Location and time

The course can be taken at any time and registration is always open.

Learning materials and recommended literature

All required material can be found in the Moodle workspace of the implementation.

Exam dates and retake possibilities

The course has no exam. The course grade is determined according to the graded exercises.

Student workload

The course provides two credits, which requires a total of 54 hours' worth of work.

Study of the material and responses to the question packages related to the material –  18 h
Conducting the practical exercises – 36 h

Further information for students

After completing the course, the student will understand the characteristics of different national basic location data, their production process and possible applications. Students will be able to search for national basic spatial data on their own and use them appropriately in practical applications.

Content:
* Collection and use of basic spatial data of the Land Survey Institute using QGIS software
* Reference systems and their implementations
* Elevation models produced from national airborne laser scanning data
* Production of aerial and orthophoto images of the Land Survey Institute
* Production of 3D building data

Assessment methods and criteria

Evaluation criteria of course unit, satisfactory (1-2): The student the production processes of different types of basic spatial data and the possibilities of using the spatial data resulting from different processes. The student understands the significance reference systems in the production of basic spatial data.??

Evaluation criteria of course unit, good (3-4): The student understands the impact of the different stages of the production process on the material produced. The student is able to search for any necessary basic spatial data and apply it to practical problems.

Evaluation criteria of course unit, excellent (5): The student demonstrates an excellent understanding of the characteristics of basic spatial data, and is able to use them as required without difficulty. The student is able to combine various types of basic spatial data to produce new analyses.

Evaluation scale

0-5

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student the production processes of different types of basic spatial data and the possibilities of using the spatial data resulting from different processes. The student understands the significance reference systems in the production of basic spatial data.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student understands the impact of the different stages of the production process on the material produced. The student is able to search for any necessary basic spatial data and apply it to practical problems.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student demonstrates an excellent understanding of the characteristics of basic spatial data, and is able to use them as required without difficulty. The student is able to combine various types of basic spatial data to produce new analyses.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed
