Learning outcomes
The students
- acquire the skills for the commonest fluoroscopy examinations and procedures
- become familiar with patient preparation, observation during examination and
ensuring safety, including aftercare and guidance
- know aseptic methods and follow the principles of sterile working
- observe radiation safety (staff, patient, dose optimisation, radiation protection)
- know how to act and take responsibility in first aid and resuscitation situations
- understand circulatory anatomy and physiology
- know how to administer safe drug treatment in radiology interventions and examinations
- know how to take an ECG and knows the basics of interpreting the result

Exam dates and retake possibilities
The exam will be held in the EXAM room (radiography and clinical nursing), and the date will be announced later. Possibility to retake the exam if the grade is failed (grade 0).
Student workload
5 cr correspond to 135 hours of student work
Further information for students
Before the start of the course, students will possible make a preliminary assignments.
Students must confirm their attendance for a course implementation by being present when tuition begins or in another manner agreed with the lecturer; for example, by returning the first course assignment. Students who are unable to attend the first teaching session due to illness may also confirm their attendance by informing the lecturer of this in advance.
Theory classes, simulation and laboratory work are compulsory. Sick leave is compensated according to the teacher's instructions.
Assignments submitted late may lower the course grade
Instructions on the use of artificial intelligence during the course are given separately. Students should familiarise themselves with Metropolia's AI guidelines and follow them in their study attainments.
The allocated exam time has been designed to take into account the potential need for additional time.
Assessment methods and criteria
The exams in radiography and nursing care are assessed separately on a scale from 0 to 5. To pass the exam, the student must achieve at least 50% of the total points.
The final grade for the course is the average of the grades from the radiography and nursing care exams.
Individual and group assignments in radiography are evaluated on a pass–revise scale.
Pass: The student has described the essential content and concepts related to the topic. The student reflects on the topic and its significance in the work of a radiographer in a sufficiently diverse manner. The structure of the assignment is well-organized and clear.
Revise: The student has described the content and concepts of the topic in a limited or incorrect way. Personal reflection and discussion on the topic and its relevance to radiographer work are missing. The structure of the assignment is unorganized and unclear.
