Learning outcomes
These workshops touch on one of the most important areas of IT - databases, in particular optimizing and increasing the efficiency of processing huge amounts of data in them. Although optimization and performance will be discussed using the example of Microsoft SQL Server, these issues mostly occur in other database environments. Knowledge of these issues is important not only from the point of view of database engine administration, but also from the point of view of programmers using database queries.
Content
During the workshops, students, in addition to basic knowledge of databases, SQL, and the SQL server management environment, will learn about the following issues:
- database engine architecture
- tables and index structures
- analysis of SQL query execution plans
- concept and levels of locks when executing SQL queries
- role of the Transaction Log
- statistics
- stored procedures
- performance aspects of the database environment
Prerequisites
Primary knowledge about databases, however this topic will be clarified too.
Evaluation scale
0-5
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Assessment (in fair, good, and excellent level) - all labs will have some assessement levels (difficulty degree). In case of fair degree, student must complete primary (step-by-step lab guide), in case of good and excellent, there will be different level cases with some questions to answer.
