Objective
The student interacts with the client professionally, respectfully and empathically using a work approach that promotes health. The student has a client-centred approach and engages in dialogue with the client.
The student combines anatomical knowledge with palpation, develops their palpation skills and examines the regional and segmental movement of the spine. The student examines and manipulates the spinal and abdominal area muscles manually.
The student recognises the indications and contraindications for osteopathic techniques and can explain the impact mechanisms of the techniques while applying scientific knowledge.
The student understands the importance of self-treatment and exercise for health and can explain their importance as part of an osteopathic treatment. The student is able to plan individual and safe self-treatment instructions for the client in order to promote the client’s health and support their osteopathic treatment. The student can explain the reasons for their guidance using anatomical and physiological arguments. The student is able to provide verbal, visual and tactile guidance.
The student self-assesses and develops their competence and learning methods in various learning environments. The student is able to acquire, critically evaluate and appropriately apply the national and international knowledge base and practices in their field. The student takes responsibility for collaborative learning and sharing knowledge in teams. The student takes others into consideration and promotes equality and non-discrimination through their actions and attitude.
Content
Examination and treatment of the joints of the thoracic spine and lumbar spine
Examination and treatment of the joints of the lower limbs
Examination and treatment of the diaphragm area
Biomechanical and biopsychosocial approach to promoting the health of the back
Guidance that promotes the client’s health
Location and time
Practical teaching at the Myllypuro campus, the lessons are marked in the order of the lesson. At least 80% must be present in the practical teaching in order to participate in the practical exam. If attendance falls below 80%, for example due to illness, possible additional assignments will be discussed with the student so that he or she can participate in the practical exam.

80% attendance is required to participate in the practical exam
Passing the practical exam is 60%, evaluation 0-5.
Written learning task accepted - to be completed - rejected. The assignment can be returned once to be completed.
