Objective

The student knows the reasons for a below-knee amputation and the various amputation techniques used. They understand what the client activity classification means for the user of the prosthesis and can apply this knowledge when manufacturing the transtibial prosthesis. The student knows how to measure a transtibial prosthesis and the basics of the modelling process using traditional as well as CAD methods. They can manufacture a transtibial prosthesis under guidance, as well as align and fit it on the client. The student can apply their knowledge in materials in the manufacturing of prostheses and the selection of various components. They are able to consider financial factors and follow environmentally sustainable methods and ways of working in the prosthesis manufacturing process. They are able to evaluate the client’s functional capacity and the usability of a prosthesis and to guide the client in the use of a prosthesis.

The course deals with the principles of sustainability, which are applied in the selection of materials, taking into consideration their recyclability, durability and ethical production, as well as in the utilisation of innovations and technology, while promoting social responsibility in health care.

Qualifications

Anatomy and Physiology 2, Materials and Manufacturing Techniques and Professional Basis for Prosthetics and Orthotics must be marked as completed.
