Objective

Nursing is a discipline that is practiced all over the world and practice varies between different countries. Different social, political and cultural climate have fundamental effects on the nursing culture and nursing education. The Nursing around the world- course aims to look at nursing and healthcare in different contexts focusing on sustainability and internationalization in nursing and health care from different perspectives. The course aims introduce and investigate common and current issues, as well as similarities and differences in nursing, nursing education and health care in different countries around the world. The objective of the course is to learn to compare and contrast as well as to learn from other nursing cultures, meet nurses, nursing students and nurse educators who share the mutual interest in global issues in nursing and nursing education virtually without having to travel. Students will gain an opportunity to discuss and share experiences of nursing, nursing education and current issues collectively and furthermore to broaden the perspectives and understanding of nursing as a profession in globalizing world.

Location and time

Virtual online course implementation in Zoom in Autumn 2024 incl. a few face to face meetings
Course will be held during weeks 43-50.
Contact lessons are compulsory of attendance

The purpose of this course is to familiarize students with the following themes in Finnish and partner countries` health care;

Sustainability and internationalization in nursing
Nursing as a profession, core competencies and professional development
Nursing education in different countries
Career pathway (different roles) in different countries
Current issues (social, political and cultural climate) in clinical nursing and health care in different countries

Course is suitable for students who have uncompleted elective studies and is able to commit the course between 43-50 max one-two session per week ( 8-10 sessions in total)

Due to the nature of the course (International co-operation) 80% presence is compulsory to pass this course
