Objective

After completing the course, the students can participate in everyday communication at work in familiar and routine-like situations. Their language competence is sufficient to handle simple work tasks. They understand the main ideas of short, familiar texts related to the professional field and are able to draw conclusions from the details of the context. The students can write short messages and describe their own field as well as the key concepts of the field. In addition, the students are able to communicate orally in the work tasks of their field in routine, limited communication situations for which one can prepare in advance. The students’ language skills correspond to the skill level of A2.1.-A2.2 in the Common European Framework of Reference.

Content

Oral and written communication in everyday situations: routine situations at work; business situations; simple news and simple texts in one's own field; basic information about the Finnish work culture and society.
Language structures, e.g. verb tenses, verb government, combining sentences, the object case and the plural partitive.
The most important features of the spoken language.

Location and time

Autumn 2024, 1st and 2nd period. Please check the timetable weekly, both time and place of the classes may vary.

In-person teaching at Myllypuro Campus + independent work, group and pair work

Good studying skills and a lot of independent work is required. Book time for independent studying on your calendar minimum 4 h/week, preferably 10+h/week.
